Smooth or worn step/stair edges are the main reason for many severe or even fatal slip and fall accidents, however, this hazard can be very easily eliminated in minutes.
Most slip accidents on steps/stairs occur through your foot slipping at the leading edge, or nose, of a step. This is especially the case when the leading edge of the metal, wood, or concrete step surface becomes worn, and the edge rounded.
Over a third of all major injuries reported each year are caused as a result of a slip or trip (the single most common cause of injuries at work).
One of the biggest issues, when highlighted as a step/stair edge, is longevity. The majority of coatings need to be thick enough to hold grit and many coatings are just too thin, less than 1mm or 2mm at most.
The Solution
An easy solution to simplify the problem would be to use our solid preformed stair nosing profiles which are non-structural safety covers designed to be easily fitted over the front edge of most types of steps and stair edges outside or inside.
Adhesive and screws are all you need, sometimes just adhesive. They are extremely tough and durable and offer high traction that will prevent slippage even under the harshest of conditions.
Benefits of Stair nosings
In conformance with parts M1/M2 of the Building Regulations and Equality Act legislation (formerly Disability Discrimination Act), all stair nosing profiles are made apparent by means of a permanently contrasting material on both the tread and riser. This enables those visually impaired to define where each step starts and finishes, ascending or descending.
Over time, coatings and paints on steps will wear down and so the contrasting definition would have been long gone. How many steps have you seen that are clearly neglected and have zero highlighted edge?
Our products are designed to transform the danger zone on steps into a safe high traction well-contrasted safety surface that is safe under all conditions.
As you can see above, our stair nosing is pre-finished with a chamfered back edge to ensure no tripping. They are ready to install and constructed from extremely robust composite fibre reinforced plastic (FRP). All elements of the stair nosing are bonded together in a single manufacturing process making for the strongest and most durable stair safety product available today.

Why is GripClad’s product better than an alternative method?
Our product does not adopt a layering or bonding method where an anti-slip coating is bonded to a pre-formed base such as steel or pultruded material. This method invariable sets up a weak point where the two dissimilar components, the top coating, and the material meet. This weak point will be further strained by stress set up within the product through movement associated with normal use or through thermal expansion and contraction. Such a bonding method also has a low tolerance to impact and typically the top coating will peel away from damaged or impacted areas.
No layering, no bonding, no weak spots, just one immensely strong composite, solid product.
You simply get the toughest most durable and longest lasting products available anywhere.
Our anti-slip products for steps and stairs have been used throughout a variety of industries including construction, education, rail and retail.
