As we transition into Spring the weather will improve and as with every year, this draws more people into the great outdoors. Even more so this year, as stage by stage we come out of lockdown. As more people want to get out and about, now’s the time to make sure your outdoor areas are safe and slip free.
With restrictions easing on 29th March, allowing people to meet at outdoor gatherings limited to 6 people or 2 households; more people will be flocking to national parks and forestry areas. And with further restrictions easing on 12th April allowing outdoor hospitality and leisure venues such as zoos, theme parks, campsites, and holiday lets; even more of the great outdoors will be utilised to allow socialisation to recommence. The much-anticipated return of higher footfalls is a dream come true for many business owners, but do not let it become a nightmare if you’ve let your maintenance slide or if there’s still problems to reduce on your risk assessment.
Many outdoor hospitality venues offer areas of decking which not only become slippery when wet but offer poor grip regardless of the weather conditions.
So how do you enhance the traction on decking?
Our non-slip decking strips are the answer. Designed to fit directly onto existing floor surfaces such as timber decking, concrete and metal. Our buff decking strips are aesthetically pleasing and easily blend into the existing environment. They are designed with a chamfered edge which provides additional safety and further reduces trips and falls. Our decking strips have a PTV Test Reading of 71 Dry and 63 Wet.
If you have wooden outdoor steps up to your decking areas you may find these steps become quite slippery when wet you could use a combination of decking strips along with GRP Anti-Slip Panels or our Anti-Slip Stair Tread Covers & Nosings.
Our GRP Decking Strips are just one of the many ways we can reduce the slip risk in your outdoor areas.
For slippery patches on natural terrain some venues have been using chicken wire as a way to prevent people slipping. The fact is chicken wire is not fit for purpose and can create hazards and nasty injuries to not only the people using these paths, but animals in the environment too. Mini Mesh Grating can be used to provide a safe walking area whilst still allowing growth of foliage such as this example at Brecon Beacon’s National Park.
