GripClad® GRP handrails are a virtually maintenance-free product, ideally suited for industrial and commercial applications. It's particularly suited to harsh environments where its corrosion resistance allows it to outperform conventional galvanised steel equivalents or timber alternatives. This is due to GRP's high strength-to-weight ratio, low installation and maintenance cost.
All parts of our fibreglass handrails are made to fit into each other and are easy to handle. GRP handrails are compliant with all relevant standards and provide a versatile, cost-effective solution because no repainting or welding is required. Independently tested by the Engineering Department at Lancaster University, our ergonomic GRP handrail system meets the requirements of BS 4592.0 2006+A1 2012 Industrial Flooring, Stair and Handrails for Heavy Duty (0.74kN/m). The handrail also complies with BS1422-3 Stairs, Stepladders and Guardrails. It exhibits excellent resistance to a wide range of chemicals, including acids, alkalis, fresh and salt water, ethylene glycol, petrol and other fuel oils. However, it is not recommended for extensive exposure to acids and alkalis.
These fibreglass handrails have been independently tested on modular handrails and the system meets the requirements of BS4592:0 2006+A1 2012 Industrial Flooring, Stairs and Handrails for General Duty, 0.36kN/m.
The standard handrail system has also been tested and this can meet the requirements for Heavy Duty, 0.74kN/m/.These items were tested with centres between the stanchions of 1.25m. Obviously if the stanchions are closer together then the loading could be greater.
We supply a stainless steel bolt set for each connector. We also supply the base feet bolts for attaching the tube/post to the foot.
Why GRP for handrails?
Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP), otherwise known as Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP), offers developers many advantages over metallic alternatives, especially when compared with steel equivalents. Benefits, such as high tensile strength, low weight (approximately 1/4 of the weight of steel), corrosion resistant, non-conductive properties, radar transparent and electromagnetically neutral, combine to deliver a highly cost effective, durable and sustainable product.
Not only is GRP compliant with all relevant standards, it is also corrosion-resistant and has a high strength-to-weight ratio. This means it effortlessly outperforms galvanised steel and timber alternatives.
Are GRP handrails easy to install?
Yes. GRP handrails are very easy to install. Installation is quick and hassle-free.
What is the minimum height a GRP handrail can be?
The minimum height of a GRP Handrail must be at least 1100mm above the walking surface.
How often do they need to be maintained?
Due to their corrosion and impact resistance, GRP handrails are virtually maintenance-free.
What applications are GRP handrails suited to?
GRP handrails are ideal for industrial and commercial applications. They are suitable to harsh environments due to their corrosion-resistance.
How long does GRP last?
GRP products have a long life-expectancy and can stand the test of time, lasting between 25 to 100 years and over. GRP is recognised for being extremely long-lasting and survives well, even in challenging environments.
