Set amongst picturesque Parklands, the Billingham Golf Club course is positioned in over 160 acres in the Northeast of England offering great access from the adjacent A19 and nearby A1. The course was originally designed and built in the 60s with a signature hole playing across a pond, some undulating hills with varying ground levels and a wide variety of mature trees and wildlife all help to make Billingham a popular golfing destination.
Billingham Golf Club have Health and Safety at the forefront of their minds and required a product that would help keep members and visitors safe. They found the perfect anti-slip solution, here at GripClad.
The problem
Because of the lay of the land steps at Billingham are used to access the majority of tee boxes and like most golf clubs initially, their steps were made up of recycled railway sleepers because of their hard-wearing and longevity properties offered. But with no additional safety measures until more recent times, they had to source something to help prevent slips. At Billingham, Health and Safety for the members and visitors are paramount and with any surface becoming slippery when wet, particularly wood, they had to look at ways to remove any potential slipping hazards. Over the years the products they had tried and tested hadn’t lasted the pace of time and they soon required alternative replacements.
The solution
About 9 or 10 years ago after some significant research, they came across our GripClad GRP anti-slip sheets and panels which they purchased and tried and found to be the ideal replacement and they can honestly say that the original ones purchased are still in use today.
They found that they can be fitted with success to any surface even their old sleepers still in use, but as the older ones have rotted away, they now replace them with new modern treated sleepers and new GripClad anti-slip treads if required. It won’t be much longer before they have GripClad on all of their steps.
“If there are any organisations who are looking for a great anti-slip system, then look no further and ask for a sample and see for yourself,” said John Dales, Head Greenkeeper.
